Sunnyland Bed & Breakfast

Walk Through History

Are you heading on a Midwestern road trip and looking for the perfect stopover in Southwest Kansas? Or perhaps your destination is Garden City and you need the best place to stay.

Introducing Sunnyland Bed & Breakfast. It is the epitome of what a fantastic bed and breakfast should be with a sprinkle of unique charm on top.

Sunnyland is a popular place to stay in Garden City, with its historic character and to-die-for food it’s easy to see why.

It’s a Historic Building

Sunnyland is listed on the Kansas Historical Register which gives you an idea about how important this old building is. It served as a home to David R. and Maretta Menke. David R. Menke was an important figure in Garden City and responsible for much of its development.
He was one of the first people to open a store, was the first postmaster, started a 1,700-acre sheep ranch, worked as a cashier for First National Bank, and was the county treasurer. Needless to say, he was a busy and successful Garden City resident that contributed hugely to building the town.
Sunnyland is over one hundred years old (1909) and has had six owners.

You Can Leave the 21st Century Behind

Sunnyland Bed and Breakfast is designed in a bygone era style, set in a grand 1909 three-story brick home with a wrap-around porch. When you arrive at this stunning spot you’ll feel like you’ve stepped back in time.

Expect grand staircases, ornate public rooms, and attention to finer details.
There’s a 1920s piano in the music room, Bradbury and Bradbury wall coverings in the foyer, original woodwork and three original fireplaces.

Small details, such as the original chandelier in the dining room and an antique candy counter in the kitchen all add to the unique historical feel.

There’s a Ballroom for Events

It doesn’t get more grand and extravagant than throwing an event or celebration in a hundred-year-old ballroom. The Bed and Breakfast happily hosts bridal and baby showers.
When you’re visiting Garden City, you want to be conveniently located to all the best things to do. And you will be if you stay at Sunnyland.

The Garden City Arts is a popular attraction for visitors and is within walking distance from the Bed & Breakfast — only 0.2 miles. Also within walking distance is the Finney County Historical Museum, Lee Richardson Zoo, and Garden Rapids at The Big Pool. And if you’re visiting Kansas to eat your way through the best Midwestern cuisine, you’ve got plenty of restaurants on your doorstep.
